FRANCESCO FAROLFI
COMMISSIONED MURALS
AND TROMPE-L’ŒIL PAINTINGS

Florentine painter Francesco Farolfi, through his business Farolfi Arte, has been creating commissioned murals and trompe-l’œil paintings for over 35 years, working in Italy and abroad.

Original designs, painted entirely by hand.
Each work is a unique piece, conceived to harmonize with the architecture of its setting and with the client’s tastes and requirements.

Each project takes into account the proportions of the space, the character of the interior, and the client’s requests to determine the most suitable decorative style and composition.
On request, paintings can also be created in historical or classical styles, using entirely original compositions or elements inspired by the works of the great masters, reinterpreted and recomposed to integrate harmoniously with the architecture.

Mural painting creates new spaces.
Since ancient times, painted architecture, landscapes, and niches have created imaginary openings, transforming walls and ceilings through the illusion of trompe-l’œil.

Trompe-l’œil painting—French for “deceiving the eye”—aims to give viewers the impression of seeing a real space beyond the surface of a wall or ceiling. The illusion is achieved by studying the painting’s perspective, proportions, light, and shadow to ensure they are consistent with the architectural setting and the viewer’s vantage point.
This approach belongs to a tradition of mural painting that, beyond depicting a subject, has long sought to integrate with its architectural surroundings, appearing as an extension of the real space: from the painted architecture of ancient Rome, as seen on the walls of rooms in Pompeii, to Renaissance frescoes and the grand ceilings of Baroque churches and palaces, which appear to open up toward the sky.

Painted on site or on canvas. Paintings can be executed directly in their intended setting or on canvas painted in the artist’s studio, then shipped and affixed to a wall or ceiling using a suitable adhesive. The canvases can be shipped rolled worldwide.

Farolfi Arte is based in Florence and also undertakes the restoration of paintings on canvas and frescoes.
