SELECTED PROJECTS

Detailed descriptions of selected completed projects.

1) Trompe-l’œil wall decoration

created in 2015 in a private villa in Pisa, Tuscany. A view of an ancient closter

Original design, conceived and executed from an idea provided by the client, who wished to transform the space by drawing inspiration from the image of an ancient cloister with columns. The main challenge of the project was to recreate the illusion of such a spacious architectural setting within very narrow and articulated areas: the sections of wall beside the central window measured only 75 cm in width and approximately 3 metres in height. The cloister was therefore specially designed and adapted to the actual structure of the space, using perspective to create a sense of continuity and depth beyond the physical limits of the walls. The decoration was integrated into the architecture of the home through the creation of faux-stone wall panelling, which visually continues from the actual walls into the painted space, helping to merge painting and architecture into a single setting.

2) Trompe l’oeil decoration

featuring painted architectural mouldings and an illusionistic central ceiling rosette

Created for the sacristy of the Basilica of San Lorenzo in Florence.
Designed and entirely hand-painted by our studio, the decoration was created for a room adjoining the Old Sacristy (Sagrestia Vecchia), one of the masterpieces of Renaissance architecture, designed by Filippo Brunelleschi and decorated with sculptures by Donatello

3) Trompe l’oeil ceiling decoration

designed specifically around the existing coffered structure.

The original architectural layout of the ceiling, with its recessed panels and mouldings, was incorporated into the design and transformed through painting into a classical-style decorative composition.
The large central panel depicts an open sky with putti, birds, floral garlands and foliage, inspired by the painted decorations traditionally found in historic Tuscan villas. The surrounding coffers were enriched with trompe l’oeil ornamental motifs, creating the illusion of sculpted mouldings, rosettes and stucco reliefs.
The entire decoration was conceived in response to the existing architecture, transforming the simple geometric structure of the ceiling into a unified painted composition.
